Grounding Self-Clinching Stud

Grounding Self-Clinching Stud

This grounding self-clinching stud uses optimized knurled serrations that cold-flow into sheet metal, creating a permanent electrical path with contact resistance below 2.5mΩ (per IEC 60950-1) and eliminating the need for external star washers or conductive adhesives.

Product Specifications

Product Description

The Grounding Self-Clinching Stud provides the electrical bond that Class I equipment safety grounding depends on. Knurled serrations on the part cold-flow into the panel when it is pressed home, generating a large, tight metal-to-metal contact area between stud and sheet.

That cold-formed interface delivers contact resistance below 2.5mΩ (per IEC 60950-1) without external star washers, toothed washers or conductive adhesives — components that can be omitted, installed incorrectly or degraded by paint and oxidation. Because the connection is created by the panel material itself, it is permanent and self-maintaining.

The stud has been validated to withstand 1,000 hours of salt spray exposure (ASTM B117) without an impedance spike, so continuity is not lost in humid or coastal environments. It installs flush in 0.8mm to 3.0mm panels with a standard arbor press and provides M3, M4 and M5 grounding points, supporting equipment safety requirements such as UL 60950-1 Section 2.6 — where a loose ground connection is a shock hazard, not a nuisance.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Low Contact Resistance: Below 2.5mΩ per IEC 60950-1 for dependable safety grounding.
  • Permanent Cold-Formed Bond: Serrations cold-flow into the sheet for a self-maintaining connection.
  • No Star Washers or Adhesives: Removes parts that can be omitted or degraded over time.
  • 1,000-Hour Salt Spray Validated: Continuity retained without impedance spike in humid environments (ASTM B117).
  • Flush Installation: Presses into 0.8–3.0mm panels with a standard arbor press.
  • Supports Regulatory Compliance: Assists equipment compliance with grounding safety requirements (UL 60950-1 Sec 2.6).

Application Industries

Deployed where electrical safety depends on a permanent, low-resistance bond, this stud is used in data center and server equipment, telecommunications cabinets, industrial control enclosures and power electronics.

It provides reliable M3, M4 and M5 grounding points on sheet metal chassis where continuity must survive coating processes, humidity and years of service.
