Steel Ball Expansion Sealing Plugs
The Steel Ball Expansion Sealing Plug seals a process hole with a simple, robust mechanism. A stainless steel ball is driven into a sleeve; as the ball advances, it forces the sleeve to expand outward until it presses firmly against the wall of the machined gallery.
The resulting interference fit is permanent. It both holds the plug in position and seals the bore, giving a certified IP68 rating without threading, tapping or sealing compounds. Nothing needs to cure, nothing needs to be re-tightened and nothing can work loose.
The stainless ball also protects the mechanism from corrosion at the point where the expansion force is applied, and the plug is tamper-proof by nature: once set, the closure is a permanent feature of the housing.
Engineered for uncompromising performance in high-stress environments, these plugs seal coolant galleries and air-tightness test ports in electric vehicle battery enclosures.
They are also used for permanent closure of cross-drilled passages in hydraulic systems and precision castings where a machined hole must remain sealed for the life of the equipment.
