Slotted Hexagon Safety Nut
The Slotted Hexagon Safety Nut provides positive locking rather than friction-based retention. Slots are cut through the nut, and once the nut is tightened a cotter pin is passed through the slots and the hole in the bolt shank, mechanically obstructing any rotation.
That distinction matters in safety-critical joints. Vibration, thermal cycling and impact cannot loosen a fastener that is physically blocked from turning — there is no friction to be overcome and no preload to decay. The lock can also be verified visually during inspection, which is valuable in equipment that must be checked quickly and reliably.
Produced from high-strength medium-carbon or alloy steel by precision cold-heading and slotting, the nut supports repeated disassembly and reuse with stable performance. It is designed for components where a loosened nut would be unacceptable.
