Type 71 Flush Knurled Sealing Rivet Nut
Type 71 is a sealing rivet nut for applications where a threaded fastening point and a watertight joint must be created in one operation. During pull riveting the knurled collar on the body is compressed against the panel, closing the gap between the rivet nut and the hole and forming a sealed, clamped connection.
The sealing collar also grips the sheet metal, so the installed nut resists rotation and loosening in service. Combined with its IP67 rating, this makes the fastener suitable for joints exposed to rain, washdown and condensation — the conditions in which a standard rivet nut lets fluid creep into the assembly.
The head is designed to finish flush with the panel, holding surface flatness to ≤0.05mm (per ISO 10721). That removes the protrusion that interferes with gaskets and mating surfaces, which is why the Type 71 performs where ordinary sealed hardware fails under thermal cycling and pressure washdowns.
Deployed where sealing integrity equals operational safety, Type 71 serves outdoor telecom infrastructure such as 5G macro cells and fibre cabinets exposed to rain and salt spray, automotive electronics including ADAS sensors and battery enclosures tested to ISO 16750-3 vibration specifications, and industrial control panels such as food-processing machinery requiring IP67 washdown compliance.
Medical devices including MRI housings and surgical robots also rely on this sealing rivet nut, where a flush, stable and shielded threaded connection must remain leak-free through repeated cleaning and disinfection.
