Torx Thread-Forming Screws for Direct Assembly in Plastics

Torx Thread-Forming Screws for Direct Assembly in Plastics

A Torx-drive thread-forming screw designed to directly assemble into plastic bosses: it forms its own mating thread without pre-tapping or a separate nut, delivering high pull-out resistance while keeping hoop stress in the boss under control.

Product Specifications

Product Description

This thread-forming screw carries a specially profiled thread that plastically forms the mating thread inside a pilot hole. Compared with thread-cutting screws, the forming action work-hardens the plastic around the joint instead of producing chips, giving higher pull-out and strip-out resistance and a repeatable clamp over many assembly cycles.

The thread flank geometry is optimized for low driving torque and high stripping torque — the widest possible margin against over-torque failures on automated lines. The TORX® drive supports torque-controlled electric drivers without cam-out, and case-hardened steel with lubricant-free plating keeps driving friction consistent.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Direct Assembly: No nut, no pre-tapped hole — one screw, one operation into molded bosses.
  • High Pull-Out Resistance: Formed threads engage more plastic material than cut threads.
  • Low Boss Stress: Flank profile controls hoop stress, reducing cracking in glass-filled resins.
  • Wide Torque Window: Low drive torque, high strip torque — safe margin on automated lines.
  • TORX® Drive: Stable torque transfer for torque-controlled assembly.

Application Industries

Designed for consumer electronics housings, automotive interior and under-hood plastic parts, appliance assemblies, and any thermoplastic joint where a metal insert or tapped hole would add cost and process steps.
