
An electric traction motor is a precision rotating machine wrapped in a casting. Its fasteners hold air gaps measured in fractions of a millimeter — preload stability is rotor-centering.
End shields locate bearing carriers; their screws set concentricity. Uneven or relaxed preload tilts the shield and loads the bearing edge — the classic e-motor whine that grows with mileage. Symmetric torque patterns, calibrated friction (K-factor controlled coatings), and re-check at end-of-line hot test are baseline practice.
Housings are die-cast aluminum; end shields disassemble for bearing service. Steel wire inserts give the parent thread 15+ assembly cycles without wear — and locking variants add the vibration resistance the frequency spectrum demands.
