Lightweighting discussions center on bolts, yet in many joints the sleeve sets the structure. A spacer is not a filler — it is a precision compressive member.
In a through-bolted joint, the sleeve defines clamp length and absorbs preload compression. Aluminum 6061-T6 sleeves provide the stiffness-to-weight ratio steel cannot: same compressive geometry at one-third the mass. They also break galvanic concerns when paired correctly and damp vibration better than hard steel stacks.
Supplying bolt, sleeve and nut as a matched set with documented length tolerance simplifies assembly quality. Topprecision manufactures 6061 sleeves and spacers alongside its ZT68 aluminum bolt line, with matched-set kits for EV structure and robotics customers.
