Why 6061-T6 is the workhorse
6061-T6 offers strong compressive performance at one-third steel's density, excellent machinability for tight length tolerances, and anodizing compatibility for corrosion and appearance. For higher-load cases, the same geometry in 7-series pairs with ZT68 bolts at 600 MPa class.

- Length tolerance between bolt grip and sleeve stack decides whether preload lands on the joint or on misalignment.
- Sourcing bolt and sleeve separately adds their tolerances; sourcing as a set subtracts them.
- Anodized bores and ends protect against galvanic attack and galling in reciprocating service.
