ZT68 Deep Dive: Cold-Headed 7-Series Aluminum Bolts at 600 MPa

Aluminum bolts were long a spacer-grade compromise: light, yes — structural, no. The ZT68 line changes that premise with 7-series alloy, cold-heading process control and rolled threads.

The alloy choice

7075-class 7-series aluminum delivers 570–600 MPa tensile strength at 2.8 g/cm³ — a third the density of steel at two-thirds the strength. Galvanically it sits closer to aluminum parents than steel does, reducing couple risk in lightweight assemblies.

The process that makes it possible

  • Cold heading forms the head with continuous grain flow — no cut surfaces at stress concentrations.
  • Rolled threads leave compressive residual stress in the root, the fatigue-critical zone.
  • Controlled heat treatment windows balance strength against the toughness aluminum joints need.

Where ZT68 earns its place

EV battery structures, drone and eVTOL airframes, robotics limbs — anywhere hardware mass sits at the extremity or multiplies across hundreds of joints. Design honestly: aluminum bolts need torque windows and thread protection, not steel habits. Topprecision supplies ZT68 with load ratings, torque tables and joint-application support, including matched 6061 sleeves for complete lightweight joints.
