Die-cast aluminum and magnesium housings offer unbeatable mass and thermal properties — until you thread a bolt into one. The soft parent metal strips, galls and relaxes under repeated assembly, thermal cycling and vibration. The fix is elegantly simple: a helical wire thread insert that converts the tapped hole into a hard, wear-resistant thread with load spread across its full length.

Where inserts pay for themselves

  • Repeated assembly points: covers, service panels and manifolds that are opened dozens of times over the product life.
  • High clamp-load joints: bearing caps and structural brackets where the casting itself could never carry the preload.
  • Repair economics: stripping a thread in a finished casting no longer means scrapping the part — re-tap, insert, done.

The strength argument is quantifiable. Comparative testing shows that a tapped hole fitted with a wire thread insert distributes load over many more engaged coils, increasing effective pull-out strength substantially compared with a bare tapped hole in the same alloy.
