
A plating line determines three seemingly separate fastener properties simultaneously: corrosion life (thickness), torque behavior (friction), and shelf appeal (appearance). All three vary with position on the rack.
Electroplating deposits unevenly — edges and points thicken, recesses stay thin. Thread crests carry more coating than roots, which is why thread fit must be verified post-plate and why classes sometimes shift. Rack loading patterns, current density control and spacers manage the spread.
