Overview
Electronic precision screws are cold-headed micro fasteners below about M2, used to close moulded plastic and thin metal housings in consumer electronics. At this scale the screw is less a clamp and more a controlled spring: it must hold a known preload on a plastic boss without cracking it, survive repeated service openings, and be small enough that the head does not intrude into the product envelope. This listing: size CM1.4×0.30×2.4, material C1018, grade Case-hardened, finish Nickel plated.
Advantages
Head geometry and recess depth are held to fractions of a millimetre so automated drivers engage reliably at high cycle rates without cam-out that would damage the plastic boss beneath.
Unit weight is controlled tightly enough (in the 0.02 g range for the smallest sizes) that screws can be counted by weight in automated feeding systems.
Case-hardened C1018 keeps the core tough while the surface resists wear from repeated driver engagement, which is the limiting factor on screws below M1.4 that are opened during repair.
Nickel plating provides a defined friction coefficient and a barrier against galvanic corrosion where the screw contacts a dissimilar metal chassis; the plating thickness also has to stay inside the recess tolerance so the driver still fits.
Applications
Smartphone and tablet housings, TWS earbud cases, smartwatch backs, camera modules, laptop hinge brackets, and small appliance enclosures where the boss wall thickness limits screw diameter.
Match the screw to the boss, not to the driver: a screw one size larger than the boss design allows will crack the plastic before it reaches torque. For plated screws into aluminium, check the galvanic couple — nickel against aluminium is acceptable, zinc against aluminium in a humid environment is not.
