Overview

A Topsert extra-heavy-duty insert carries both an internal and an external thread, so it acts as a thread adapter as well as a reinforcement. The external thread fixes the insert into the parent material, the internal thread receives the working screw, and the wall between them is thick enough to carry high axial load without the insert collapsing — which is the limit on thin-wall designs at the same external size. This listing: internal thread 7/8-14, external thread 1-3/8-12, length 1.25 in, material Stainless steel.

Advantages

Wall thickness is increased relative to thin-wall inserts, raising radial stiffness so the insert does not ovalise under transverse load or during installation torque.

Because the external thread engages the full depth of the parent material, pull-out strength scales with hole depth rather than with insert length alone.

Damaged internal threads can be restored by replacing the insert without touching the external thread in the parent material.

The dual-thread construction lets a small internal thread be installed into a large hole, which is the standard way to put an M6 screw into a casting that was designed around a larger boss.

Applications

Heavy machinery frames, press and forming tool bases, suspension and chassis brackets, construction equipment pivots, and castings where a small screw must be anchored in a large boss.

Check the wall thickness left in the parent material after the external thread is cut — a common error is to specify an extra-heavy insert into a boss that then has less than one thread diameter of material around it.
