Overview

SMT fasteners are reflow-compatible hardware placed on the PCB with the other components and soldered in the same pass. The part must survive the reflow profile without losing plating adhesion or dimensional accuracy, and its seating face must stay flat enough to sit on the pad without solder wicking into the thread. Survives the full reflow profile without plating blistering or thread distortion, which is the qualification that separates SMT-grade hardware from ordinary fasteners.

Applications

PCB mounting of shields and heatsinks, chassis grounding points, module assembly, and any electronics housing closed by screws after reflow.

Verify the plating survives the actual reflow profile used, not a nominal one — peak temperature and time above liquidus both affect adhesion. Check that the thread is masked if solder wicking into the thread is a risk.
